Bel Air, Maryland Real Estate

Welcome to Harford County without a doubt a history buffs dream come true. You will find vintage homes, several mansions, historic churches, old flour mills, and elegant horse farms scattered throughout the area. The county is bounded on 2 sides by water-the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay. In fact, the Concord Point Lighthouse (located in Havre de Grace) is the oldest continually operating lighthouse on the East Coast.

Aberdeen Proving Ground is the county's largest employer; however the influx of new business continues to expand the economy making this a desirable location for residential development.

Cultural opportunities are extensive with the Edwin Booth Theatre, Harford Choral Society, Phoenix Festival Theatre, Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra, and Tidewater Players all in the area. Annual Events and Festivals include a broad spectrum including waterfowl shows, Scottish Festival, Armed Forces Day, Seafood Festival, state Jousting Championships, and much more.

The Harford Community College is located in Bel Air. It also coordinates the programs and maintains the Higher Education and Applied Technology (HEAT) Center facilities in Aberdeen where several major colleges and universities offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Bel Air Maryland serves as the County Seat and is the main commercial/geographic center. The downtown area has been restored and revitalized. While it does have modern business complexes and shopping malls, the city retains a small town atmosphere. Many new residential developments surround the town, as well as original homes dating back to Colonial days. There is a wide selection of single family houses built from the 1960's to the present. Express bus service is available to Baltimore and there is good access to I-95. Both private and public golf and country clubs are nearby. The Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, a new hospital, open November 2000, in Bel Air.

The Bel Air Maryland real estate market is flourishing here; the average family home will cost around $139,000. Most neighborhoods are well established but there is new construction of Bel Air real estate. As in the rest of the state, the new sub-divisions are being built in a way that will not destroy or disturb the natural setting more than necessary.

Along with new construction have come new schools, supplementing what has already been established. Education is of paramount importance here; and Bel Air schools are well known for having a rich educational history.
